★ Surprising Standouts
This month we're highlighting a few surprising standouts, including the social media dashboard tool HootSuite, and Spotify, a streaming service that's making noise since its launch a few years ago.
★★ HootSuite
HootSuite is a social media
communications dashboard used for online brand
management. It publishes to websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MySpace, and WordPress. It
also publishes to Flickr, Tumblr, and YouTube via HootSuite Apps. HootSuite is
competing in a marketplace for social media dashboard tools or platforms, where
marketers are focused on social media management for their clients' web
engagement activities. The most well known competitors of HootSuite
include TweetDeck
and Seesmic.
★ MeetUp
Meetup is the world's largest
online network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a
local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face.
Meetup's mission is to revitalize local community and help people around
the world self-organize.
★★ Spotify
Spotify is a music streaming service
that was launched in 2008 offering selected music from a range of major and
independent record labels, including Sony, EMI, Warner Music
Group, and Universal. Music can be browsed by artist, album, record label,
genre or playlist as well as by direct searches. On desktop clients, a link
allows the listeners to purchase selected material via partner retailers.
★ StumbleUpon
Stumbleupon was founded in 2001 and is
a discovery engine (a form of web search engine) that finds and recommends
web content to its users. Its features allow users to discover and rate Web
pages, photos, and videos that are personalized to their tastes and interests
using peer-sourcing and social-networking principles. Toolbar
versions exist for Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and Internet
Explorer, but StumbleUpon also works with some independent Mozilla-based
browsers.
